GST Registration Jaipur: How to Apply Online, Documents, Fees, and Complete Process

01 July 2026

If you're starting a new business in Jaipur, or even running an existing shop or business, the question of GST registration inevitably arises. And the question isn't just "how to do it." The real confusion is: "Should I do it or not? What do I need to submit on the portal? What will the fees be? What if I make a mistake?"

I personally understood all this when I first started registering traders in Jaipur. The portal is a bit tricky if you're using it for the first time. Looking at the list of documents can be overwhelming. But once you understand the process, it's not that difficult.

In this blog, I explain everything in practical terms - which documents are required, what to do step by step on the portal, what the fees are, and which points should be specifically kept in mind for Jaipur traders.

First decide: Is GST registration mandatory or optional?

Not every business needs GST registration. Deciding this is the first step.

If your annual turnover exceeds ₹40 lakh (for goods) or ₹20 lakh (for services), registration is mandatory. A ₹40 lakh limit applies for manufacturing and trading businesses in Rajasthan. ₹20 lakh for service providers.

In some cases, registration has to be taken even without considering the turnover limit:

If you supply goods from one state to another (inter-state supply)

If you sell on an e-commerce platform (Meesho, Amazon, Flipkart, etc.)

If you are a supplier under the reverse charge mechanism

If you are a casual taxable person (temporary or seasonal business)

Jaipur has many textile traders, marble exporters, handicraft sellers, and gemstone dealers who supply to interstate markets. Registration is compulsory for them even if their turnover is below Rs.

Voluntary registration is also available – if you choose to. The advantage of this is that you can claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) and appear credible to B2B customers.

Turnover thresholds - verify from gst.gov.in and latest GST Council notifications, limits are different in some special category states.

Which documents are required for GST Registration?

This is the list that practically applies to most Jaipur traders. There may be slight variations from case to case.

For Proprietorship:

PAN card (you are the owner)

Aadhaar card

Passport-size photo

Business address proof: Property tax receipt or electricity bill if the place is your own. Rent agreement + NOC from landlord if rented

Bank account details: Cancelled cheque ya bank statement

Mobile number and email (for OTP verification)

For Partnership Firm:

The firm's PAN

Partnership deed

PAN and Aadhaar of all partners

Address proof of principal place of business

For Private Limited Company:

Company PAN

Certificate of Incorporation

CHICKEN/AOA

PAN and Aadhaar of Directors

Board resolution (authorized signatory ke liye)

Address proof

One important thing that people often miss: Business address proof mismatches occur frequently. If you run a shop in Sindhi Camp in Jaipur, but your address proof is for Vaishali Nagar, that will create a problem. The address proof must match.

Digital documents must be uploaded in JPEG/PDF format, generally between 100KB and 1MB in size. Larger files may be rejected.

GST Registration Portal: Where to start?

Official GST registration portal hai: gst.gov.in

Go there, you will find the "Registration" option in the "Services" menu. Select "New Registration" for a new registration.

The process that is followed is:

Part A - Basic Details and OTP Verification

Here, you first have to provide basic details: PAN, email, mobile number, state (Rajasthan), and district (Jaipur). After entering all these, the OTP comes to your mobile and email.

After the OTP is verified, you receive a Temporary Reference Number (TRN). Make a note of this – it's important. If you close your browser or the session expires, you can return to the TRN and complete your application.

Part B - Detailed Application

This takes a little time. It has multiple sections:

Business details - trade name, business constitution (proprietorship/partnership/company), commencement date, reason for registration.

Promoter/Partners details - personal information, PAN, Aadhaar, designation.

Authorized Signatory – If someone else signs, then their details.

Principal Place of Business - Jaipur ka address, nature of premises (owned/rented/leased), coordinates (latitude/longitude - map se pick kar sakte hain).

Additional Place of Business – if there is a godown or any other location.

Goods and Services - What is your supply? HSN codes or SAC codes must be provided. Don't make a mistake here.

State Specific Information - There may be some additional fields for Rajasthan.

Aadhaar Authentication - This is mandatory. You have to authenticate using OTP.

Documents Upload – All documents have to be uploaded section-wise.

Verification - This must be submitted using a digital signature (DSC) or EVC (Electronic Verification Code). Proprietorships typically use EVC.

What happens after the application is submitted?

After submission, you receive an Application Reference Number (ARN). This can be used to track the status of your application.

A GST officer reviews the application. If everything is in order, a GSTIN (GST Identification Number) is issued – normally within 7 working days. If there are any queries, the officer sends a "Notice for Clarification," and you are required to respond.

In Jaipur, I have observed that most of the rejections or delays are due to the following reasons:

Address proof mismatch

Aadhaar authentication failed (name mismatch, mobile number not registered)

HSN/SAC codes galat ya missing

Business constitution unclear

If you receive a notice, you must respond to it within 7 days on the portal. Don't ignore it – otherwise your application will be rejected.

GSTIN Number – What is this?

The GSTIN is a 15-digit alphanumeric number. The structure looks something like this:

First 2 digits: State code (08 for Rajasthan)

Next 10 digits: Your PAN number

13th digit: Entity number (for multiple registrations on the same PAN)

14th digit: Z (by default)

15th digit: Check digit

All GST-registered businesses in Jaipur have GSTINs starting with "08". Whenever a client or vendor wants to verify their GSTIN, they can check it under "Search Taxpayer" on the GST portal.

How much is the Online GST Registration Fee?

GST registration is completely free from the government. There are no fees on the portal.

However, if you hire a CA, tax consultant, or agency, their professional fees vary. In Jaipur, they generally range from ₹500 to ₹2,500, depending on case complexity.

If the company's DSC (Digital Signature Certificate) is to be made, then its cost is different - approximately Rs. 1,000-1,500 for 2 years.

GST Registration for Specific Businesses in Jaipur - Some Practical Points

Jaipur is a diverse business city. Textiles, gems & jewelry, handicrafts, IT services, hospitality – it's all here. Some specific situations that arise frequently:

Textile traders (Sanganer, Bapu Bazaar area): The issue of composite supply or mixed supply arises. Choose the HSN codes of the fabric carefully. Clarity between 5% and 12% is necessary.

Handicraft aur Jewellery sellers: If you also export, you will need a LUT (Letter of Undertaking) for zero-rated supplies. You can obtain this with or after registration.

Online sellers (Meesho, Amazon, Flipkart): GST is mandatory for e-commerce regardless of turnover. The marketplace must provide a GSTIN. Many home-based sellers in Jaipur don't know this and get a notice later.

IT and Software services: SAC code 9983 generally applies. The limit for service providers is 20 lakh rupees. If you're a startup, it's better to register early - B2B clients want to claim ITC.

Restaurant and food businesses: The Composition Scheme is eligible if turnover is below the threshold. ITC is available in the Regular Scheme (with some restrictions).

Specific HSN/SAC codes aur scheme details - CBIC notification se verify karein.

What to do after GST Registration?

After receiving the registration, some immediate steps should not be missed:

Start printing GSTIN on your invoices. This is mandatory - GSTIN is a compulsory field in proper tax invoices.

Understand the schedule for filing GST returns. The Regular scheme requires filing GSTR-1 (outward supplies) and GSTR-3B (monthly summary return). Quarterly filing is also available if turnover is less than Rs. 5 crore.

Start claiming ITC - This is the biggest financial benefit of GST. The GST you pay on purchases is adjusted against your output GST liability.

If you are in the Composition Scheme, then the quarterly return is - CMP-08 - and the annual return is GSTR-4.

How to do GST Registration Online - Specific Process for Online Business

If you do business purely online (no physical store), then some things are different in the registration process:

You can provide your home address as your principal place of business. Home address proof – electricity bill or property tax – is acceptable.

Photographs should be of the "principal place" - usually a photo of the main door of the house or the working area is fine.

If you provide services (freelancing, consulting, digital marketing, software development) then no goods need to be selected - only the SAC code and service description need to be given.

Online sellers who supply to multiple states - They need to register in one state and then add other states through "Amendment" on the GST portal if required. In most cases, one registration is sufficient.

Common Mistakes That Jaipur Traders Often Make

Let's be a little honest. The mistakes I see repeatedly during registration are:

The name in Aadhaar and PAN is different - "Ramesh Gupta" in PAN and "Rameshkumar Gupta" in Aadhaar. This fails authentication. First, get the name matched with UIDAI.

Incorrect business start date - They often give the date of registration, even though the business has been in operation for several years. This creates discrepancies in subsequent ITR and GST returns.

HSN codes don't pay attention - take a "whatever fits" attitude. Wrong HSN codes lead to later scrutiny.

Rent agreements are not stamped or notarized - the portal does not accept such documents.

Mobile number has changed, but the old number is registered on Aadhaar - OTP is not received, process gets stuck.

How to Cancel or Surrender GST Registration?

If the business closes or turnover falls below a certain limit, the registration must be surrendered. This also happens on the GST portal – you must fill out the "Application for Cancellation of Registration" form.

Even after cancellation, pending returns need to be filed. And the ITC (input tax washout) needs to be reversed while filing the final return.

If the officer has cancelled the registration due to any non-compliance, a revocation application has to be filed. For this, pending returns and dues have to be cleared.

Conclusion

GST registration is a one-time job, but if it's not done correctly, problems arise later-wrong address, wrong HSN codes, Aadhaar mismatch. I've worked with thousands of traders in Jaipur, and most of the problems come from document preparation, not the process itself.

Do one thing: gather your documents first, match your names everywhere (PAN, Aadhaar, bank), and then go to the portal. If you fill it out early, you're sure to get a notice.

FAQs

Q1: How much time does it take for GST registration in Jaipur?

Normally, a GSTIN is issued within 7 working days if the application is complete and correct. If an officer raises a query, the timeline is extended. Generally, keep a buffer of 15-20 days.

Q2: Can I do online GST registration from the comfort of my home?

Yes, the entire process is online at gst.gov.in. Scan your documents, don't make any payments through net banking or UPI (it's free), and verify with an OTP. If you're doing it for the first time, it will take a little time, especially Part B. To avoid mistakes, have someone check it once.

Q3: Is just Aadhaar and PAN sufficient for GST registration in a Proprietorship?

No, these two documents alone won't suffice. Business address proof will also be required – property tax receipt or latest electricity bill for owned premises, rent agreement plus NOC for rented premises. A canceled check or bank statement is also required.

Q4: If my Aadhaar is not linked to my mobile number, can I register?

Aadhaar authentication is mandatory and OTP-based. If you don't have a registered mobile number, you'll need to first link your mobile number at a UIDAI authorized center. In Jaipur, post offices and Common Service Centers (CSCs) perform this.

Q5: How much is the online GST registration fee for the government?

There are no fees to pay to the government. Registration is completely free. If you are getting it done through a consultant or CA, they will charge separate service fees, which can be negotiated.

Q6: How many GST registrations can be done on a single PAN?

A single PAN can have different GSTINs in multiple states. There's only one registration per state - but if there are different business verticals, there's an option to obtain separate registrations even within the same state. In Jaipur, those who operate both retail and wholesale generally don't need separate registrations - one GSTIN can run for both.

Q7: What happens if the address proof mismatches?

Application processing may be delayed, or the officer may send a clarification notice. In such cases, the correct document will need to be re-uploaded in the reply. Therefore, it's important to match the address proof in advance. Check this before submitting your GST application.

Q8: Can home-based freelancers or consultants obtain GST registration?

Yes, absolutely. You can use your home address as your principal place of business. Your home's electricity bill or property tax proof will do. You can include photos of your working setup. The threshold for service providers is 20 lakh rupees - if you are above this limit, registration is mandatory; if you are below this limit, it is voluntary.

Q9: I am an e-commerce seller, selling from Jaipur - is GST compulsory?

Yes. Whether your turnover is Rs. 1 lakh or Rs. 10 lakh, GST registration is mandatory if you sell on Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, or any other marketplace. This rule applies to all e-commerce operators. Marketplaces also ask for registration proof when creating an account.

Q10: GST registration is received - what do I need to file now and when?

In the Regular scheme, GSTR-1 has to be filed by the 11th of every month (outward supply details) and GSTR-3B by the 20th of every month. Quarterly filing option is also available if turnover is less than Rs. 5 crore - where GSTR-1 is filed quarterly and 3B monthly. In the Composition scheme, there is a quarterly CMP-08 and an annual GSTR-4. Late fee of Rs. 50 per day (Rs. 20 per day in case of nil return) is applicable for missing dates.

Late fee amounts and filing dates - Please confirm with the latest GST notifications, the Council has made some amendments
